![]() ![]() Where-as Alaitoc doesn't offer much to melee (in 12", no cover for you?) I wonder what else will be considered as 'Ulthwe Guardians': D-cannon battery? In a fight with enough numbers, this is like getting an automatic single extra hit, per unit.Ħ++ invul for those wraith constructs and the like again AP-4 isn't that uncommon imo although you'll be able to equip shields for your wraiths.ĥ+++ vs mortals: not unheard of for '6 to wound causes a mortal wound', even for melee weapons.Īnd storm guardians too can be buffed with the same power I'd hope. Wound reroll can still be very clutch for something like a wraithlord, not that many attacks say you wiff two wound rolls in a pretty important melee: 1 stratagem reroll, 1 trait reroll tadaa! +1 to cast for some melee-buffing powers Guardian’s catapults aren’t going to change the world but it fits Ulthwe.īut note that this is still arguably great for a melee list imo. ![]() The relic is interesting - you don’t see many things preventing psychic denials. The warlord trait looks really fluffy, no idea if it’s good. Not sure if farseers get something like this already, but will help warlocks and the like from perils. Again, this is situational depending on what army you’re fighting. ![]() But overall, fluffy but not worldbreaking,Ħ++ is good on units that don’t have one already, which is… guardians? Wraithguard? Some tanks? Sounds great on paper but probably less good in practise, unlikely to keep a unit alive under focused fire.ĥ+++ on mortal wounds is nice, especially with all the mortal wounds rocking around in this edition. Will mean that you’ll be incentivised to cast the higher warp charge spells first, which may cause issues. +1 to first psychic test is also decent, but not overwhelming. Re-roll a wound is decent, if you have heavy weapons with single shots - can see this being great on guardian weapon platforms. This is good but people are overexcited here. To conclude, yes, it's strong, and I'm happy about that :-) But it might not be the strongest if you embrace the 9th edition codex and all the other changes that it brings :-) Time will tell.ĮDIT: I just remembered that guys from the Infinity Circuit (very well respected Edlar play testers) said that they were particularly excited about playing Iyanden, Siam Hann and Custom Craftworlds, so these options are probably quite strong too if you list-build and pilot appropriately :-) There might even be a way to play Aeldari and take Abhor the Witch :-) With new Phoenix Lords / Autarchs and weaker psychic powers not everyone with be bringing a lot of psykers. ![]() 6++ will not do much, since the best units already have ++, and +1 to cast on the first cast will only be worth it if you bring at least a couple of psykers. Ulthwe get weaker versions of both of these traits (and hence gets two more small traits to compensate). Emperor's Chosen get to reroll a hit or a wound roll and 4+++ against mortal wounds. That becomes particularly clear if you compare with other recent factions. Most of these traits by themselves are weaker than others. However, Ulthwe will be fun to play in any case! I'm however not sure if it will be the strongest pick for the 9th edition codex if you build focused lists (especially, Biel Tan looks like it may be much better if you play Aspect heavy lists). It's the strongest all-rounder and best suited for current Craftworlds lists based on an 8th edition codex. ![]()
